3.1 in 31

A few choice words ran through my mind this morning when my alarm went off at 6:20 AM. I considered for a minute (closer to ten really) not going but I had promised myself and Erica that I would be there for the 5K in Mission so I sluggishly got out and bed and started to get dressed. First thing I noticed when I got in the car was the temperature, a cool 39 degrees. Fantastic, just awesome. By the time I got to Mission I had decided I was just going to go out and run, no excuses JUST RUN and get it over with. Proud to say that I finished the 3.1 miles in 31 minutes. Not too shabby. Next up is the Edinburg 10k next weekend. What's another 3.1 miles right?

Nervous about Mañana

It all started with six of us about three weeks ago. Bright and early tomorrow though there will only be three: Erica, Marcos and Emma will be running in the Texas Citrus 5k in Mission. My last run was Wednesday night with 3.75 miles on the treadmill at the gym. I always worry about just running at the gym though. It's never the same as running outside. I've really been trying to push myself to build endurance. Longest timed run was 55 minutes, almost a five miler. I hope it's not too cold tomorrow at 7:30 and that we all finish under 40 minutes. On their website Mission Parks and Rec have the run listed as a "Fun Run." Note to the event organizers: Try changing the time to 9 or 10 that always sounds more "fun" than 7:30 AM, especially on a Saturday.

First One Out on Funday Friday

Four days ago, I thought today might never come but I'm so glad it did. It's funny how every Monday I struggle to get out of bed yet come Fridays I'm ready and out the door quicker than any other day of the week. Robert and I usually compete with one another to see who can get out the door first. Last one out always has to worry about the checklist. You know, make sure all the lights are off, doors to bedrooms closed, Charlie has food and water for the day, things like that. Apparently we are not the only ones with this morning dilemma. Last night over dinner with his sister, her husband, Jen and some other friends they all said they go through the same thing. Well, today I won! I thought he had beat me until I hear the door open again. It seems he forgot that he had a couple of games to ref right after school and needed to take his clothes with him. I quickly slipped on my shoes, gave him a peck on the cheek and said "love you, gotta go." :)

I'm Blossoming

My inbox has surprised me the last couple of mornings. Yesterday was the one about calories (weight has been on my mind lately), today there was the email that started:
Dear Jennifer,
Feeling overwhelmed with too much to do and too little time?

Uh, YEAH! Of course. What in the world is going on? Who is watching? Work is crazy right now and that's just because we've only been back Christmas break for a few weeks. This week in particular has been so tiring. Forms to fill out, paperwork to turn in, people to call, 25 little ones to convince that benchmarking is important, and lots and lots of questions to answer. Seriously is it only Wednesday? Hurry Friday! Hurry!

Anyway, the email got better when it said this: I'm not saying that stress is always a good thing. I am saying, from first-hand experience, that's it's not always a bad thing either. We need the right amount of tension to keep us "blossoming."

No doubt about it I'm so "blossoming."

That Many? Really???

In my inbox today was an interesting email from health.discovery.com. It was what they called the Guess the Calorie game. I took a shot at it and gained an extra 714 calories because I was off on more than a couple of the items below. Oh well, lesson learned.

Slice of Pizza - what will be served for lunch tomorrow
259 Calories
Muffin - love these from Starbuck's

320 calories (4 oz muffin)
Bagel - what I was thinking about for breakfast tomorrow

480 calories
Chocolate on Chocolate - one of my faves

400 calories

What A Night

Last night we attended a wedding and decided since we were all dressed up to go checkout the downtown scence since we hadn't made out there yet. We had only been there about 15 minutes when we noticed Robert had two missed calls from his mom. Immediately we knew something must be wrong for her to be calling so late. When we called her back we found out his two sisters, brothers-in law and friend had been in a bad accident. Turns out they were on their way home when they were hit by a drunk driver. Luckily his sister sped up so that the car wouldn't hit them head on and instead ended up clipping the tail end of their truck. The impact sent them spinning and eventually flipping on it's side. Some people who saw it all happened stopped to help and thank God they all made it out safe (cuts, bruises, swelling). Since both his sisters are pregnant they were rushed to McAllen Medical and Edinburg Children's hospital. We were all relieved to hear that the babies were ok. It's times like these where we are reminded that there is always someone watching over us.

It's a New Day (and all in 28 seconds)

I started watching the inaugural coverage this morning at the gym while on the elliptical, watched as I got ready, then got to school and immediately looked for a live feed to stream it from and really couldn't stop watching. My kids and I worked on a math lesson and then watched for a while before PE. Right before the swearing in we all packed into our school cafeteria to watch history in the making. It was awesome to watch my kids (most of them) listen attentively to Mr. President's speech, they clapped and cheered just like we were part of the 1.9 million people that trekked out to Washington to see it live. What a historic and exciting day. As I begin to tell my kids why this was such an important day, one of them interrupts and says "I know, I know, we are part of history, we are seeing something in our lifetime that others haven't." "That's exactly right," I replied. As tried to think about where I had left off I realized he had summed it up perfectly for us. :)

3 in a Row?

If I'm able to get up tomorrow at 4:45 again, that will be 3 days in a row for an AM workout. Today was harder than yesterday to get out of bed, but around 4:00 this afternoon I was so glad I had my workout out of the way. Going to try and sleep now.

Should Have Never Started to Watch

So I've been trying hard to stay away from watching the Bachelor but today I finally gave in. We had finished eating dinner by 7:15 and Robert was about to engage in a three hour long XBox session so I figured why not start flipping through the channels. I turned on the TV and right there in front of me was this:

Just a little hard to change the channel. Needless to say I was glued to the TV for the next hour. It was just like I remembered it. There was the girl who seemed more into herself than him, the girl whose world is going to come tumbling down if she doesn't have some alone time with him and then the girl who always reveals too much of herself. Not sure who my favorite is yet but one thing is for sure, I'll definitely be tuned in.

We Did It!!!!

This morning Aurora, Erica, Stacy and Mariana headed out to the beach to attempt the Port Isabel Longest Causeway Run & Wellness Walk. I've done this event for the last three years and each year it gets better and better. I love the opportunity to be able to cross the bridge by foot, the gorgeous views of the bay and island, and the incredible amount of MOTIVATION&DETERMINATION in the air. It's awesome to see so many people out there pushing themselves to the limit. One of the girls mentioned above seems to think that I was the instigator in this, and made all of us sign up for this 10K but I hope they are all proud of themselves, we did AWESOME! I found this quote online:
"Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day. It asks you, 'Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?'" - Peter Maher, Irish-Canadian Olympian and sub-2:12 marathoner
TODAY WE WERE STRONG!!!!!!!

Rotten Apples

Thanks to Keebler for inviting the girls over tonight. It's hard to believe we went through an entire two weeks without getting together! After our dinner she decides to pull out this game she played during the holidays.

It didn't seem too bad so we decided to play a round. Apparently My friends and I don't think anything alike and Mari is a mind reader. Who would of thought!
